USA ROAD TRIP - PART 1 - LAS VEGAS

Recently Jac and I went on the road trip of our lives. We travelled to the USA for a whole month and we visited three states. A month seems like a long time to visit only three of the 50 states but the reality is that we barely had time to see everything we wanted!

We started off in Las Vegas. I'd already been to Vegas back in 2007 and I remembered being hot, but this time it was ridiculously warm. It was 46ºC when we stepped out of the plane and the temperatures didn't drop much while we were there. It was something like 35ºC at 6am!

We stayed at the Luxor hotel. It's very different to all the others as it looks like a pyramid and the rooms are all in an angle. We had an amazing view of the Mandalay Bay from our hotel window.

The day after we arrived we woke up at 5am because of the jet lag and seeing that the sun was out already we decided to venture out and it was such a good idea as there was absolutely nobody in the streets and it wasn't as hot as it is at midday.

Most of the hotels in Vegas are themed so it feels like you're in a huge theme park. The New York New York, Excalibur, Paris, Circus Circus, Venetian and Ceaser's Palace are just some of the most famous ones. The hotels are ridiculously huge and most of them have free shows that you can see through the day.

The Strip might seem small in paper but it can take up to eight ours to get from one side to another so we only saw about 4-5 hotels a day.

On our third night we attended to Tournment of the Kings at the Excalibur Hotel. TOTK is a life dinner show with joust, kings, horses, magic, fireworks, etc and you have to eat like they used to do back in medieval times, with your hands! We were served soup, a whole chicken with carrots and a jacket potato and apple pie. There is a few different teams on the arena and you have to cheer the team you chose to sit at so it's a lot of fun, something I'd definately do again. Sadly there's no photos as it's prohibited to take any photos/videos!

On our last night in Las Vegas we saw the David Copperfield show at the MGM and I must say, it blew our minds. He made a huge vintage car appear within our eyes in less than two seconds, made 12 people of the audience dissapear, turned back time and much more! It was $100 each but it's so well worth it! We couldn't stop wondering how the heck he does what he does in front of so many people!

After the show we went to Freemont St, Downtown which was probably what we liked the most about Las Vegas. It's just off the Strip, about half an hour on the bus and it's a completly different feel. The biggest screen in the world is build in as a cealing, there's bands playing 24h a day and it's just a crazy and interesting place with loads of street artists and naked people!

So the five days we spent in Las Vegas were crazy! It's such a unique city that you have to visit at least once in your lifetime.

But of course, five days is nothing in a whole month trip so visit again if you want to see our next stop: Grand Canyon Ranch in Arizona!

Have you ever been to Las Vegas? Would you like to go? Comments are welcome ^_^

  1. One of my most favourite places in the world, we've been 3 times now and still no sign of getting bored of it, in fact we can't wait to return which will be next year probably.
Loved your photos, made me think of all the fun times there, great way to kick off a month long trip :)
